I just dug that show. Sorry if i don't quite understand your post. I love the music. The wheel is a fave of mine.
Right now it's Hofheinz Pavilion - University of Houston on 1972-11-18. Phil's bass playing is doing it for me. I notice Cliff just reviewed it.
Peace

Nice, Houston is a wild town. 3rd Ward is off the hook. I used to watch Anna Nichole Smith dance in Houston in the 70s. At the Finest Gentleman's Club in the World, but even Good Time Charlie got the blues back then.

Can you suggest a Booming Truckin' for lunchtime ?

I was 18 and back then it was legal to drink in Texas. ODECO, Morgan City the house of the Rough Necks and Hell Fighters. So what's that tell ya ?
Speaking of Morgan,(and Donna will love this) Mt Diablo will soon be a National Monument with a Tram for Mitchell Canyon Road. Mt. Diablo is the 2nd best landmass view point in the World. Apparently the State can not manage the surrounding areas (ie. Mt Zion) due to the need of granite. Maybe China Beach in Marin will now supply the rock or construction will total STOP in the bay area.

Excellent point which the good Saint missed. The refined lady in question was born in 1967. Even if our friend saw her in 1979, she would still only have been 12. Now, I've heard some creepy things about Texas, but I'm guessing that is even a little much.

You, sir, are foul, but make an excellent point as well as nicely bringing this hijack back to the Dead.

Beneath your perfume and make-up
You're just a baby in disguise
And though you know
That it is wrong to be
Alone with me
That come on look is in your eyes, Oh,

Young girl get outta my mind
My love for you is way outta line
better run girl, Your much too young girl

Am I alone in finding Gary Phuckett's little ditty just a tad on the creepy side?

We learn something everyday, from wiki (Winger has a real chip on his shoulder, and his band declined due to beavis & butthead? GREAT!):

"Winger was the subject of constant ridicule in MTV's animated series Beavis and Butt-head during the mid 1990s. The neighbor boy Stewart, who was always trying to be accepted by Beavis and Butt-head, was usually depicted wearing a Winger T-shirt, as opposed to the heavier Metallica and AC/DC shirts worn by the title characters. This was due to Winger telling MTV he would not let the show make fun of him. This has been cited as a reason for the band losing popularity. Mike Judge continued to mock Winger in King of the Hill.

About this same time, Lars Ulrich of the band Metallica could be seen throwing a dart on a poster of Kip Winger in the video for "Nothing Else Matters". When asked about this, Kip Winger once stated: "Our band was known to musicians, and a lot of musicians showed up to see me play - watching trying to figure out how I'm playing - we were like the 'hair band' [version of] Dream Theater -- That is why it's the great irony that we ended up on that geeky guy's shirt on Beavis & Butthead, because Metallica couldn't play what we play, they couldn't do it, they literally - technically couldn't do it. And I'll fucking challenge those chumps to that any day of the week, but we could play their music with our hands tied behind our back. And so, I was a little t'd off about that, but in the end, none of that shit matters..."

Funny, but I have a completely different take on Tesla, the town, about 150 clicks northeast of you, BD...near Corral Hollow...

"At the head of Corral Hollow Canyon, 12 miles southeast of Livermore, once stood the coal mining town of Tesla. It's hard to believe that this pastoral scene once supported over 200 buildings and 1500 inhabitants.

The large mine tailings and foundations scars are all that remains. A casual observer would not have a clue that this historic spot had any significance in California history. But if one were to look closely and carefully study the grounds, the significance of Tesla would emerge."

It's not far from the Ghost Town of Carnegie, as in THE Carnegies, and their brick factory/town, further down the canyon...this is the kind of place only Bay Area rats will know...

High-school girls in camouflage
Don't know where to end or where to start

Now creepier than all is Gary Glitter, which inevitably leads to this further hijack:

In previous posts I've told you about my hometown of Oldham UK: it rains every bloody day; there's no cinema; its sports teams are less successful than the Dolphins; it has the second most dangerous street in Britain (no-one seems to know where the most dangerous is); yes,it does have a muslim pub; parents demand that Religious Education teachers who do not believe in god should be fired; and there's now no railway so you can't get out of the place.
So why mention it? Because it's got even worse: Gary fucking Glitter is coming to live here!!

I was two thirds of the way thru your post before I realized you weren't talking about Dire:

"And though you know
That it is wrong to be
Alone with me
That come on look is in your eyes..."

Yep--that fits...

"My love for you is way outta line..."

That too...

[As for the original song? Yuck factor is right...way outta line for sure]

I see Dylan has a song "If you ever go to Houston" or something like that. Gotta go out now. Wish I could suggest a good song for you but I'm not at all as informed as some of the people here.
I just listen to most of the early70's and am rarely disappointed. Bon Appetit.
